OLIVER FORD

director of photography

Showreel

Oliver started his career as a stills photographer and soon found himself camera operating on a feature film under BAFTA-winning cinematographer John Mathieson BSC (Gladiator) and Alain Cross. Growing up in Zimbabwe and having lived in Italy and Argentina, travel and documentary are an important inspiration for his work. Having also studied Spanish and Italian literature and film, Oliver thrives in the creativity of drama and fiction, an increasingly important part of his work. Oliver has been working on shorts, features, commercials and music videos on all formats and has shot for the BBC, Tescos and Kronenbourg.

PERSONAL NOTE

Capturing one single location in many different and inventive ways throughout the whole film was the challenge; the textures, glass and light both from the sun and the cars provided endless reflections and shapes through which to portray our very different characters and we were lucky to have a talented cast who really made the space their own. I felt that a heavy use of close-ups and very naturalistic, exploratory camera movement would best connect the viewer to the characters, I really enjoy a documentary approach to fiction.

Oliver is a true artist. He is also an excellent collaborator. He has a poetic eye for imagery that engages the viewer. As a collaborator he is serious about his craft and respected the creative vision of the film. He was a real joy to work with and has a sense of humour to boot! Phone Box was our first collaboration and it definitely will not be the last!
